PDF files are often used in the business world to save, organize and share documents. They contain all the information in a document, including text, images and formatting such as fonts and colors. PDFs can be opened on any computer with Adobe Reader or Acrobat software.
Microsoft Word is a popular word processing program that allows you to create documents with text, graphics, tables and images. Word documents can be saved in several file formats, including DOCX (the default format), DOC (the older version), RTF (Rich Text Format) and TXT (plain text).
EPUB is an open-source file format developed by the International Digital Publishing Forum for electronic publication. EPUBs can be read on many mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets.
The file formats used by Office apps are:
Microsoft Word .docx, .docm
Microsoft PowerPoint .pptx, .ppsx, .pptm
Microsoft Excel .xlsx, .xlsm
Microsoft Outlook .msg, .eml
The PDF is the most popular file format for documents. It's a lot more compact than a Word document, and it's also easier to share because anyone with Adobe Reader or Preview can view it.
Convert your documents to PDF instead of printing them out
One of the biggest problems with paper is that it can be easily misplaced or lost. You might print out an important document, but then forget where you placed it. If you're looking for a way to avoid this problem, one solution is to convert your documents into PDF format and store them on your computer instead of printing them out.
A PDF document is much more secure because it's digital, meaning there's no chance of losing it. It's also easier to read and share because it can be viewed on any device with a PDF reader.
Convert your documents to PDFs using Acrobat DC
If you don't already have Adobe Acrobat installed on your computer, download it from the Adobe website and install it before attempting to convert any documents into PDF files. Once installed, open Adobe Reader and navigate to File > Create PDF > Create PDF by Email (or press Ctrl+N).
In the window that pops up, enter an email address in the To field and fill in all other fields as desired. Then click Send PDF by Email icon at bottom right corner of screen (see screenshot below).
